Creating Homes, Not Houses – Our Commitment at Stepping Stones Care
By Gurpreet Singh, Director
At Stepping Stones Care, we often say: a child doesn’t just need a house to live in – they need a home to belong to. That belief sits at the very heart of everything we do. For us, going above and beyond isn’t optional, it’s who we are.
Every one of our homes is carefully renovated with love, thought, and attention. When you walk inside, you won’t find a space that feels clinical or impersonal. Instead, you’ll find warm living rooms filled with comfort, personalised bedrooms that reflect each child’s individuality, and cosy corners that invite relaxation and healing.
These environments enable our children to feel a sense of belonging so that they are comfortable to explore their experiences.
We don’t cut corners, because our children deserve the very best. That’s why we furnish our homes with the same quality we’d choose for our own families. A welcoming space where everyone can gather, friendly areas where conversations flow, a bedroom that feels truly theirs – these details matter.
This hard work to create a warm home conveys to the children in our care that - You are valued, you matter and you belong here and deserve to be cared for.
Behind the scenes, we are incredibly lucky to have Alan, Mark and Jon, our fantastic maintenance team. They are the unsung heroes who keep our homes shining. Whether it’s a fresh coat of paint, a repair done with care, or simply making sure everything feels “just right,” they pour their hearts into their work. And it shows.
They don’t just maintain our houses – they nurture our homes.
What makes this even more special is that one of the young people in our care has recently taken an interest in what they do. From time to time, he joins Alan and co on their rounds, lending a hand and sharing his own creative ideas about how our spaces could be improved. It’s a wonderful thing to see, a young person engaging with his environment, learning new skills, and feeling that sense of ownership and pride in his home.
I often remind our team that we should care for these spaces as if we lived in them ourselves. Because when a child feels comfortable, safe, and proud of the place they live, that’s when real growth begins. A nurturing home is the soil in which resilience, confidence, and hope can flourish.
At Stepping Stones Care we’re creating homes filled with warmth, care, and love – the kind of homes every child deserves.
